Wilwood Brake conversion

I bought my conversion kit from Nigel at QRG. Not cheap but if you talk to him nicely... It comes with the discs, calipers, fitting bolts and rubber shims.

The rubber shims are self adhesive and are to be stuck on the back of the pads. There were not enough in the pack for all off the pads. Nigel got hold of some more and sent them to me. I stuck them on the back of the pads and they were then too thick to slide into the callipers! The answer I got was, fit them without, run the car for a thousand miles or so and then they should fit in once the pads have worn down a bit. I used copper grease instead and have not had any squealing issues.

I fitted the discs with the new bolts provided. They were slightly too long and as a result they would not fully tighten and the discs wobbled. The answer I got was to use the original MB bolts. They fitted fine. So when you get the kit, bin the bolts and rubber shims to save some time.

So how good are they? It is like the difference between a second class letter and an email. They are certainly well worth the expense, purely for safety reasons. I recently demonstrated their stopping power to Micky G. His comments are not for the website. It was something like, my car doesn't stop anywhere near like this. I believe a Wilwood conversion set is now on his shopping list.

Peter Humphries

Once again many thanks to Pete for this great tip, I must say I was shocked at the stopping power of Pete's car and I would love a set in the future.
