Lucas PAS Fluid Additive

Not that many miles ago I had my steering rack fully rebuilt. It recently started to leak from one of the gaiters. I was told that it would not be possible to fix with the rack in situ and I was advised to try an additive. After a bit of research, I settled on the one attached by Lucas. It boldly claims to stop all leaks or your money back. It says to use one or two bottles. I tried the one bottle and fired the car up. The power steering belt screamed like a banshee and I could hardly turn the wheel. When I could it was very notchy. It was a 'what have I done' moment. Over the next few weeks the feel of the steering started to get towards normal. The leak was cured. I was then advised that the polymers in the additive would continue to keep tightening the rack up over time and that might not be such a good idea. I drained all the fluid out and replaced it with normal ATF. The steering is now as it should feel and still no leaks. Bold claim on the bottle but justified in my opinion. Two bottles and you would need Arnold Scwarstinegger to turn the wheel.

Many thanks to Pete for yet another great tip.
