I have just had my type 9 Gearbox overhauled, it had five missing teeth from 5th gear which was the main problem!!

These gearboxes are not even fitted with an oil drain plug so I had a Ford one put in at the same time.

Selection of second gear is notoriously difficult when the box is cold. My man told me to fill it with 10-40 semi synthetic engine oil and trust him. (fully synthetic being too much for the box) Well I have and have to say that even on frosty mornings selecting second gear is no problem at all now.
