Rear Axle, Structural Components. With our cars now over 35 years of age, we do need to look after and consider the underside. Yes they were all galvanised from new but galvanising does not last forever. I had my own MB sonic cleaned underneath and all of the metalwork painted in black Raptor paint to protect the underside even further. Now, some 5+ years later I'm delighted I did this. I do know that another owner painted his chassis in Hammerite, Black Galvanised paint and this has also been very successful.

NOTE: Normal paint will just flake off the chassis as it does not adhere properly to galvanised metal.

Should you get rust issues there are specific pre-formed repair sections available from the marque specialists, (see pictures for examples) most other areas would require the area treated to stop any spread of rust, a suitable plate making or purchasing and welding in place and finishing off with a good protective product for a long lasting repair.
