Adaptor MB Fuel Pipe

Following MESS advice regarding petrol pipes I checked mine out and found the one from the petrol tank to fuel pump to be well perished. (When I put two clamps on it to aid removal, it ruptured at both points.)

When I first examined it I saw that the tank end was a different size to the pump end. Nigel at QRG confirmed that the tank end is 12mm and the pump end is 14mm, also that it was a barstool of a job to do. He suggested using 12mm pipe and soaking one end in boiling water and making the petrol pump have it. However there was a danger that the rubber could be damaged and if a small bit came off and into the pump, it would stop it working. George Stamford confirmed that he'd had his done and that it was a barstool. Mick made his own 316 Stainless Steel reducer some time ago with opposing ferrels which look wicked and a great pity it will never be seen and possibly a bit overkill.

My simple answer, use two different sized petrol pipes and a reducer. 12mm petrol pipe is easy to find, not so 14mm. I had to go on the internet to find it and also a plastic 14mm to 12mm reducer. It was then a doddle to replace. So if the pipe is not leaking and you can plan the replacement, I would suggest my approach.

reducer The reducer I used is nylon and cost £2.89p from Advanced Fluid Solutions 01245 321320. It is more robust than it looks. They are on Ebay. I got both the 12mm and 14mm petrol pipe from them as well.
