Rear lights LED Upgrade.
Even with the upgraded rear light units, the Middlebridge suffers the problem of many older cars in terms of the effective output of the lights in comparison to more modern equivalents. Under normal circumstances this is not a problem but in rain or low light I have always been conscious of the ability of those behind me to see me, or not as the case may be.
I have put additional tinfoil in the units to improve reflection and tried conventional LED replacement bulbs in the rear of my car before, without, so far as I could see, much improvement, That might have been the type of bulb I bought, but I could not get the increase in output I thought should be possible with LED.
I was very interested then, when Mick said he had found a supplier who was able to manufacture reflective board type units which were a direct fit to the Middlebridge lights. I had no wish to alter the lights as they needed to be easily changed back to incandescent if the MOT tester decided that the units were not legal on the car. This is a case of legislation taking time to catch up with technology and I would hope that common sense would prevail and that despite the units not being "E" marked the safety benefit would be recognised.
It is notoriously difficult to capture the true effect of the lights in an image but hopefully the comparisons included here give some indication of the improvement in output. The lights are not cheap but they do appear very good quality. They are adjustable to get the best fit within the lens and are easily fitted and replaced.
