Middlebridge 28
Middlebridge No 28 was originally registered as 380 BSM and was featured in 'Classic Mechanics' magazine in December 1991. The feature was called 'Heart to heart' and compares this Middlebridge with a Brooklands Capri. Having read the article, I would say that the Middlebridge received a very good write-up. This Middlebridge has done 238,000 miles on its original engine and is believed to be the last car to leave the factory with rubber impact absorbing bumpers fitted. [08/08]
MB28 was built for a Senior member of the Barr family of Glasgow, manufacturers of Irn Bru the famous soft drink. She was registered as F22 LNS and delivered to Glasgow by Middlebridge staff. By 1991 it later passed into the ownership of Barry Marsden who was Graham Walker's navigator and was reregistered as 380 BSM. It featured in the December 1991 copy of Car Mechanics being compared to the big engined Brooklands Ford Capri 3000. Naturally the Scimitar had the edge.
When Barry sold the car he kept the registration number and in 1994 the car was re-registered F361 BHF. It passed through three more owners during which time it had its automatic gearbox rebuilt at 200,000 miles and an engine rebuild at 238,000.
The car was bought by the present owner in Jan 2007 (with 255,000 on the clock). Much work has since been done:- Suspension front and rear rebushed, Headlights replaced and rewired to make all four dip, New tyres fitted , Rear axle oil seals replaced, Exhaust down pipe on drivers side replaced, Petrol pipes checked and renewed, Resprayed with all glass removed, Front seats rebuilt, Air blowers replaced, Sunroof made watertight, Brakes checked and master cylinder refurbished.
She was fully prepped for the Middlebridge 25th Anniversary event at Gatcombe when unfortunately her owner was forced to sell her via the MB website for health reasons. Thankfully the new owner brought her along with a healthy 265,000 on the clock. The new owner has great plans for the car and we do look forward to seeing her during 2015. [26.09.14]
The "MESS" (Middlebridge Enthusiasts Scimitar Set) stand at the NEC Classic Car Show, November 2015 was to be the inaugural appearance of the newly restored MB 28 and what a job the new owner has done!
The interior has been completely renovated from top to bottom by a well known interior restoration company over a 'full on' six week period. leather seats & steering wheel have been completely re-trimmed, new walnut dash fascias, high quality wool carpets and finished off with a new headlining. On inspection the interior of this car is in concours condition and is one of the reasons why it is advertising the marque at the prestigious classic car event mentioned above. The new bespoke interior also extolls the Middlebridge / Brabham connection with the seating logo'd accordingly.
Paint and bodywork: This car is fresh after a 364 hour professional respray. The car was fully stripped back to the gel coat and all of the required repairs carried out prior to under-coats and final top coats. The finish was A1 with no faults as you would expect after a high class body renovation. The pictures say it all! [25.11.15]
We do look forward to seeing this car at future events as is a wonderful ambassador for the marque. [29.11.15]
