Middlebridge 46
MB46 was registered on 1st June 1990. First owned by a property company in Pinner, Middlesex. I am the second owner, purchasing her in August 1996 at approx 60,000 miles. To be strictly honest there was another very brief ownership in between. I bought it from a gentleman who had bought it with the intention of putting a diesel engine in it!!! (apparently he had already done such a conversion on a Reliant Scimitar) However after just one journey, taking it home after purchase, he decided that it was far too good a car to mess with so he immediately put it up for sale again, without even registering it in his name. I am therefore the second registered owner celebrating 20 years ownership this year.
Although not in concourse condition the car still looks very smart and often attracts favourable comments from the public.? She was resprayed some years ago but there are now some very minor blemishes evident on closer inspection, although no serious crazing or anything of that nature. I have recently had the carpeting renewed and it has not long had refurbished wheels. It has a heater that works! (QRG modification). It also has a heated windscreen. Performance is very good with no smoking and no oil consumption in spite of quite a high mileage. It also has recently had a new Kenlowe 2 stage fan fitted.
Although not confirmed it is quite possible that this may have been one of the motor show display cars in 1989. Soon after purchase I spoke to the original owner by telephone and he told me that he had not ordered the special non standard interior of the car, it had just come like that. At a later time, at a Middlebridge event with some of the Company personnel, one of the directors, John McCauley, told me that he remembered that they had done a special interior for one of the show cars that year.?
