Barton's Garage and Nottingham Heritage Day
14/09/2013 - 15/09/2013
Location: Nottingham
Once again we returned to Nottingham for the Heritage Open Day and the relaxed Bartons Garage event. On the Saturday five cars lined up at Bartons Garage. Last year we endured the hottest day of the year but this year it was cold and rainy. Hmmm... Weather aside, we had a good time with much banter and a serious buyer trying to urgently buy a Middlebridge. Many people admired the stunning new interior of George's Middlebridge and others waited patiently for the sun to shine to see if the title I had bestowed on George was justified; 'King of Bling'. Well, at about 2.30 the sun did very briefly appear and I'm pleased to say that all that looked at the car agreed with me. ;o). Will's newly painted Guards Red MB also looked stunning in the line up and drew many people to it.
Later in the afternoon we once again went around the corner to the Beekeeper Pub (Middlebridge local) to warm up of course.. ;o) We were then joined by Richard English (the Bartons Event organiser) who suggested that he would follow us to Lilac Grove and take some pictures of our cars outside the factory. Incidentally, whilst we were taking the pictures outside the factory, a young lady stopped and asked if these were the Nottingham built Scimitars, we said 'yes'. She then asked 'where were they built?' We then pointed to the name on the factory 'Scimitar House'. She took pictures and has since added us to the Beeston Community Facebook Page. With the evening now drawing in we called it a day. George and I drove to his narrowboat, which was moored about a mile away, and we soon started on the red stuff before strolling to a Chinese takeaway, all washed down with yet more red of course.
Sunday was a cold and wet affair. We headed to the Robin Hood Statue for 8.00am to prepare for the others to arrive. There was a steady stream of visitors all day, however, at one point we were all forced to hibernate in a local cafe to warm up. Will supported us on both days with his recently painted 'Guards Red' MB from Northern Scotland. He once again clocked up another 1200 trouble free miles on the round trip!!
Once again, many thanks to all that attended and made the whole weekend a very enjoyable event.
