Powderham Castle 2011

16/07/2011

Location: Powderham, Devon

Once again I fancied the trip South to Powderham Castle for a truly relaxing weekend I discussed this event in detail with George and we decided to road test our new acquisition (Trailer tent) and after a 4.5 hour drive avoiding Silverstone (GP Weekend) I arrived on site at 09.00hrs and in well under an hour we were all set-up and ready to go, (see photos below) many thanks to Reg Lander and all of the RSSOC crew whose pitch we shared, We had several Middlebridge on site over the weekend and even had a couple looking to buy a Middlebridge there and then!!

As usual this event had hundreds of Classic Cars, Trucks, bikes and Traction Engines. One of the real highlights of this event is the packed Saturday night beer tent surrounded by many of the traction engines which really make for a great atmosphere very late into the night. I have always enjoyed this event and this year was no exception and most importantly of all the weather was very kind to us, It was good to see John and Yvonne Unwin venturing South for their first visit to Powderham and I'm sure they enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and banter of the weekend prior to a very hectic period for them. Many thanks to all that attended the event and brought your cars along to display on the stand.

The site is adjacent to a main rail line and on the Sunday 11.00hrs the traction engines all line up near the railway and blast away as a steam train goes past on route also blasting away! (see picture).
