Why a Middlebridge?
Well briefly I've worked and welded my way through Triumph TR5/6/7s, Rover P4,5 and a Coupe, (Love the Coupes) Oh and a couple of Yanks as well. However I've always loved the look and drivability of the Scimitar since road testing a nearly new yellow 5a in 1974/5 when working as an apprentice. During the 80s and 90s I gradually worked my way through three 5s, 3 x 5a's and four 6a's. (We needed more room for the kids.)
In 2001 I bought a 6a V8 which joined my pride joy a SE6a turbo (FCP 345S) however I was still the Good Spirited butt of the Del-Boy, bath-tub jokes from my mates with their Triumphs, Rovers, TVR's and Jaguars 'bloody mark status' it seemed no matter how nice, quick or wherever we went I couldn't really shake the Image or good humoured banter. Agggghhhhh!!
Then by chance in April 2003 I noticed a Middlebridge for sale that required some restoration and it ticked a lot of boxes that would hopefully give my mates something to think about.
It has exclusivity, Fuel injected reliability, Galvanised Chassis, Wood , Leather, Electric everything and a Good top cruising speed, This could be just the car to kill off the Del-Boy jokes and hopefully make them eat their words. The restoration took three and a half years and I still have a to do list, Probably the high point todate was getting the Car of the show award at a show where my friends were also showing their cars, and yes I really enjoyed the payback!! Not only have I taken the car of the show award and bragged to them about winning, They have all remarked on the ability of the Middlebridge to maintain high speed and cover great distances without fuss or drama, Strangely enough the Reliant Jokes have now stopped.
I have a car that my Son Matt and I have restored, we both enjoy driving her and she's been totally reliable and has toured Ireland, France and Spain as well as many Scimitar shows throughout the U.K.
P.S. Note to my mates (you know who you are) you wouldn't really want a Middlebridge. I'm not sure you lot could cope with the reliability, speed, comfort and exclusivity, I'm sure getting weld splatter down your shirts and dealing with endless rust must be more fun than all that extra time socialising in the Pub or touring etc etc Hee hee hee he....
Maybe just maybe Le Mans next year, What do you think !!!
